2016年夏天,来自贵州凯里的导演毕赣拍摄了一部据说是“拍给山风和野鬼”的独立电影《路边野餐》,让凯里所在的苗疆从此与电影——几乎让所有人都着迷的艺术发生了一种微妙的关系,充溢着轻盈的诗意。——这是许多民族青年都期待的,他们看到的或希望人们看到的不只是那些生生不息的、被翻来覆去地诉说的民族荣光,他们看到的或希望被看到的还有这片土地上的人们的纠结与沉郁。
把FIRST影展的影片引入凯里,是有私心的铁血丁香 。FIRST很有胆识,关注的问题和关怀的主题都是非常特别,聚集的电影人和作品虽然“年轻”,都是具有某种不可思议的力量。让苗疆的青年(和其他观众)接触FIRST,感受这些特别的电影,意义是毋庸置疑的。

“现在”往往是被“过去”和“未来”撕扯着,人们在时代的裹挟中,无论怀念、疼痛或昂扬,都时刻与传统,与过去,与未来有关,而影像作品则是导演对这一切的观察和发问。
几十年以来亥时是几点,中国在经历着史无前例的变迁。
1980年代,我出生在贵州东南部的苗族村落,正值国家实行改革开放政策。1990年代,父亲在村里的小学代课之余和母亲像其他村民一样,种植水稻、玉米、土豆和红薯,烧木炭、养牛,靠天吃饭。我和村里的孩子们一起追逐在田野上,树林里,放牛,砍柴,偷瓜果,白天黑夜感受着传统的农耕文明,我们以为那一切永远不变。不久,我们开始涉过一条河,翻越几座山到几公里外的大村、大城市继续读书,土地和苗族的传统在学校的窗外渐渐飘散。
远离苗寨前往广东打工的族人越来越多。一开始,他们把田地出租给留守的村民,渐渐地,村里的劳动力被转移到城市,荒芜的田地也多了起来,那些曾经宽敞的村道和山路长满野草,那些肥沃的田地变成了山林。而行车的大路被延伸到了荒山野岭中的村落,我们以为不会变的美好悄然消失。神圣的礼仪、节日、舞蹈、歌谣,或被视为封建迷信的传统,一件件地被作为商品,人们对祖先和神灵的敬畏退隐不见。
许多人把一年大部分时间放进城市的建筑工地、服装厂、化工厂、染织厂、抛光厂,只在节日和婚丧嫁娶等重要的日子才返回山村感受几天传统的农业生活,有久违的欢乐,有新鲜的失落。
这必定不是我一个人的遭遇,多田薰 而是一代国人的共同经验:轰轰烈烈的经济建设像一只美丽的猛兽,横冲直撞,人们惊喜又惆怅。
此次展映,通过电影镜像,我们关注社会变迁过程中的人的状态。本质上来说,是关注过去(传统、文化贯习、乡村社会)与未来(现代化、城市人、远离乡村的人、儿童)的纠葛。从《小寡妇成仙记》《将进酒》,可以具体地感受传统(故乡)的美好与凋敝,以及个体的现代性遭遇、困惑;从《考试》《不过是把枪》《野潮》等作品,则可以深入地通过影像思考当下的教育和道德问题。
所有的影像作品所展现的不仅仅其本身所要展现的,它们让观众感受到的远比它们的导演在创作它们时的动机更确切,也更微妙。导演只负责把问题抛出,能否深入思考,那是观众自己的事儿。

2012年增加长片进入主竞赛单元后,经过5年的系统发展,选片覆盖超过50个国家/地区的选片。2017年,第11届FIRST青年电影展共征集参赛影片1116部。

12位电影人寄语FIRST影展:FIRST不只是开始

自2012年的高校巡展开始,FIRST一直尝试在电影节之外延伸影像的观看与呈现。巡展由最早的高校拓展向更广泛的城市空间,策展与组织的主动权由组委会转交给在地策展人,最终建构起了一年两季的“主动放映”。
经历了5年的巡展与2年多来自在地策展人们的“主动”,主动放映已经带着FIRST的影片走遍了全国33个省级行政区,亦随着观看的意志前往英国、美国、新加坡、马来西亚去寻找不同的观众群体。秋冬巡展聚焦城市艺术空间与民间放映组织,打破放映与观看的边界,在银幕之外衍生与城市和地域的互动。春季巡展进入高线,覆盖海内外一百多所高校,去碰撞中国影像创作的一种未来。
21部来自竞赛与展映单元,集合剧情、纪录、实验、动画等等类型的影片,在结束了面向电影节观众的展映之后,将随主动放映进入剧场、艺术影院、展馆等多元的空间,触碰这些气质各不相同的空间所聚集的观众人群。
主动放映巡展试图为这些影片在电影节之外提供一条独特的观看渠道,在非线性的小屏幕数字时代,依然可以在观影之中寻求集体观影的微妙互动、深入社群的真实发生。伴随我们走过几年巡展的每一位在地策展人,在这些影像内容的基础上通过持续的放映与观看,在每座城市构建出了气质各不相同的观影文化。同时我们也期待,这些并不主流的创作与表达,能在这条观看渠道上,寻找到同样在渴求更加新鲜而自由的内容的观众功夫厨神粤语,而他们共同,或许即将为我们的影视文化增加一点不一样的性格。

Director's biography
Chengjie Cai was born in 12, Feb, 1980. He earned B.A. in Art and Design, Shanxi University of Science & Technology. He worked as the director of TV programs at Zhongshi Beifang Inc. (A direct affiliate of CCTV). He also worked as a staff at a TV program group about the law at CCTV-12 channel. His cinematographic works includes Hearing Mountain Coldness, a TV drama about youth encouragement He was the scriptwriter of the film A Dealer Lives Like a Dog, and the director of the film Shaman.
【影片简介】影片讲述一个死了三任丈夫的农村寡妇的悲惨身世。她遭村民厌弃,为了寻找住处,度过冬天,而假装装神弄鬼替人看病驱邪,骗取住所。没想到弄假成真,真的成了萨满,而最后无力拯救村民的贪婪和冷漠,倍感绝望走向死亡的荒诞故事。
Synopsis
Shaman is a story about a miserable widow who lost three husbands one following another. She was abondoned by the villagers. In order to find a dwelling place for winter, she pretended to be a prophet to cure illness and drive out the devil spirits for them.Coincidentally she becomes 'Shaman' and owns the capability to do this. She finishes her life with desperation as of the endless desire of the greedy and apathy villagers.
【导演阐述】这是一个包含了生存与死亡、冷漠和善良、救赎与信仰的多层面主题的故事。关于北方人民生之艰辛,死之无常,以魔幻与现实结合的手法可能会表达的贴切一些。我想对时代乱象做一次隐喻。我想通过一个女性视角,将现实的苦难和欢喜,引向虚幻。
Director's statement
It’s a story associated with various aspects of life and death, indifference and goodness, salvation and faith. It’s a good way to express the situations of tough life and un-predictable death of Chinese people who live at north area by the method that mix magic and reality together. It’s a metaphor for the immorality and chaos of our society. I used the perspective of a woman to guide the difficulties and happiness of life to a dim world.

赵祖祥,1991年出生于北京,2014年毕业于纽约大学艺术学院电影专业,大学期间曾在布拉克表演艺术大学游学。他在中国、美国、捷克等国家导演、编剧、摄影过多部短片。他作为摄影指导拍摄的长片《这是三里屯》曾入围多伦多国际电影节。目前,赵祖祥正在北京筹备他的导演处女作长片。
Director's biography
Zuxiang Zhao was born and raised in Beijing. He graduated from New York University Tisch School of the Arts in 2014 with a bachelor degree in filmmaking. During his time in college, he also attended Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague. He has written, directed, and shot multiple shorts in China, U.S and Czech. The first feature film he worked as a cinematographer, THIS IS SALITUN, got into Toronto International Film Festival. Zuxiang is currently in Beijing preparing for his director debut feature film.

Synopsis
Several days before the College Entrance Exam, high school teacher Chen Jun is informed by An, the school’s top student Lee’sister, that their father was killed in a mining accident. Thinking for the student's future, as well as pressured by the school principle and his family, Chen Jun struggles whether he should tell Lee about this news.
【导演阐述】这个短片由一则真实的新闻报道改编而成。“高考”一直以来是中国最有热度的话题,也是中国式教育最具代表性的存在。曾经有很多影片都曾展现、探讨过高考,但多数情况下这些影片会主要将故事聚焦在学生身上。在这部短片里,我选择从一个老师的角度来看待,探讨这个话题。教育不止包涵了学生,同时也包涵了老师、学校以及整个大环境。因此,我很好奇到底学生为什么上学?他们在学校学到了些什么东西,学校在怎样教育孩子们?我拍摄这部短片的初衷就是提出一个问题:中国式教育到底是什么?当一个普通的高中教师面对个人的未来和人性的时候,他会做出怎样选择?我对大环境下一个小人物的内心纠结和斗争很感兴趣,这也是我想展现给观众看的。
Director's statement
The story is based on a true event that I saw on the newspaper. College Entrance Test is one of the most talked about problem regarding Chinese education, and has been depicted many time on film. Most of the times, these stories focus on the students. But I wanted to explore this topic through the eyes of an ordinary teacher. Because education not only contains the students but also the teachers, schools and everyone involved. I was curious about what exactly students go to school for? What are they learning, and what are the schools teaching? My intension of making this film is to question this part of the Chinese tradition and culture, and explore the true definition of education in China. When a high school teacher is facing choices, future and humanity, what would he choose? The internal struggle of this one man in a big environment fascinates me, and it is what I want to show to my audience.

Ken Yang worked as a special effects editor in Beijing for several years. After submitting his resignation to that company, he started his journey into the world of pre-production as a writer and director. His film Beat him up was an official selection for the Hollywood International Moving Pictures Film Festival and the Madrid International Film Festival (short film category: best male lead and best director).

Synopsis
Lu Bin, a taciturn young man who has recently been released from a juvenile detention centre, is assigned to learn cooking at a culinary school. On his third day under the instruction of the head chef Ms. Li, a sum of money disappears from the school office. The teachers at the school turn their suspicion to Lu Bin.??While Ms. Li is a strict teacher to Lu Bin, she also sympathizes with him. If Lu Bin is identified as a thief, he will be expelled from the school. Two teachers decide to investigate further, and Ms. Li is forced to face her suspicion of Lu Bin, along with another unexpected secret.
【导演阐述】在生活中遇到类似的真人真事,并被此触动,多年之后一直挥之不去,于是将其拍成电影,同时也为了实践这几年所积累的导演和编剧经验,选择台湾作为拍摄地是为了加强两岸文化上的交流。
Director's statement
A dish re-made from scratch; a young man reformed. A sum of money that is assumed to have been stolen but has actually just been misplaced; a wallet that is assumed to have been forgotten at home but has in fact been stolen. The many things that have been lost are eventually reclaimed when we open our hearts and offer our trust. This is a story about forgiveness and tolerance, a story about growing up. As the title of the film implies, even the biggest, most devastating mistakes, faults, and losses are no big deal in the end, because everything that was once lost can eventually be found again.

Brian Robau was born and raised in Miami, Florida and is the son of two Cuban immigrants. Biran moved to Ohio to pursue his Bachelor’s degree in Film, while pursuing other interests such as Theology, Philosophy, and the Dramatic Arts. He enjoys making character-driven films that are honest and have heart. Brian currently lives in Southern California where he is pursuing his MFA in directing at Chapman University.

Imagine in the lifetime of a gun all the hands it passes through. It's Just a Gun is just one chapter of that story. When a young boy named Gabe finds a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, it will set in motion a series of events that will change him forever.
【导演阐述】电影源起于我与本片编剧Daniel Klein的一次对话:一支枪的一生可能经历多少双手呢?基于如今我们所生活的世界,有关枪支与枪支控制的对话自然至关重要。电影的初衷并非给出一个答案,而是希望推进能够带来改变的对话。电影讲述的是一个孩子面对当今各种社会问题如恐吓威胁、家庭暴力、警察暴力以及枪支滥用的故事。我们希望这部影片能为这些问题发声。从影片伊始,我就为有多少人恳切得为了这个故事付出时间、献出才华而感到惊奇。能成为讲述这个故事的一部分,我深感荣幸。
Director's Statement
The idea for "It's Just a Gun" transpired during a conversation with Daniel Klein, the writer of the film, about how many hands a gun might pass through in its lifetime. Given the nature of the world we live in, the conversation of guns and gun control is an important one. This film's intent was not to provide an answer to this problem, but to further conversations that can lead to change.At the heart of this film is a story about a kid who faces the difficult issues that plague our society today, such as bullying, domestic abuse, police brutality, and gun violence. We hope that this film will lend a voice to these issues.From the film’s inception, it was incredible to see so many people compelled to give some of their time and talents in support of this story. I'm very grateful to be part of this to tell this story.

RAYIST,本名杨睿,独立导演、原四川电视台导演。2007年开始独立影片拍摄,并进入媒体工作苏丽珂 。早期短片《乌兰巴托的夜》、《门》、《天桥》等曾先后获得上海迷仓国际电影节“电影基金奖”、入围JVC国际观影节、日本横滨国际电影节等。导演的电视纪录片《川军抗日揭秘》获2014金熊猫国际纪录片节“电视纪录片三等奖”。后从电视台离职,成立独立影像制作工作室“复兴映画”,并应邀赴马来西亚进行《将进酒》等短片、剧情纪录片及公益片拍摄。
Director's biography
As an ex-director of SCTV, RAYIST started shooting short films in 2007. His early works Ulaanbaatar Night, The Door, The Skywalk were official selected by JVC Video Festival, YOKOHAMA International Film Festival, and was award by Shanghai Micang International Film Festival. Then RAYIST quited from SCTV and founded his film production company called “NEO Film Studio”. He is invited to Malaysia to shoot films including Bringing The Wine.
【影片简介】90年代初,少年排骨生活在马来西亚海边的一个小镇,这里的海滩算不上美丽迷人吕冠成 ,碧绿的稻田也是这里的另一道风景。排骨和朋友们在这里出生、成长,喝酒、抽烟、打牌、打架成了这帮少年消解青春多余躁动的方式。他们之中有的人享受着这种生活的“无忧无虑”什么是erp系统,也有人对这种生活慢慢产生了不适应。这时,女孩Wan Ching慢慢走进了排骨的生活。相互的好感,使得两人在夜晚共同喝酒,聊到青春胥渡吧小蝶 。不久之后,Wan Ching离开小镇去往吉隆坡,去父母给她安排的工作。排骨受此影响,挣扎之后,在稻田成熟之时,排骨终于告别了自己的青春。
Synopsis
Paigu lived his teenage life in a small town in Malaysia in the early 90's. Drinking, smoking, gambling, and street fighting are becoming the way of Paigu and his friends' life. Some of these people enjoy this kind of 'carefree' life, but some of them find out they are unadaptable to this lifestyle. At this time, Wan Ching come into Paigu's life and make the living fine. They hang out and talked about everything on their date.Soon after, Wan Ching moved from the small town to Kuala Lumpur. Her parents had a job for her. Paigu is so distressed about Wan Ching's living. Rice field is ripened again and Paigu farewells his youth.
【导演阐述】罗大佑1982年的一首作品叫《将进酒》,一千多年前诗人李白也以此为题写下“黄河之水天上来,奔流到海不复回”。全世界的海都是相通的,从异国他乡的入海口望去,海天相接,也能漂到黄河吧?这里的华人在这里出生、成长,他们的祖辈从几千里外我们的国度来到这里。今天,他们的后代仍然讲着和我们同样的语言、看同样的电影、听同样的歌。而明天,他们上国际学校、讲英语、看不懂中文的下一代呢? 我们在离吉隆坡一小时车程的海边小镇上拍摄,生活中只言片语的乡愁都慢慢渗入到这部影片当中催乳剂 。黄河对于他们来说,本来就是一条陌生的流水。
Director's statement
Li Bai wrote a poem titled Bringing in the Wine and Luo Tayo also had written a song with the same title in 1982. All rivers will meet when they run into the sea. The ancestors of the Malaysian Chinese migrated to this land. Their descendants were born and raised in here. For now they speak Chinese and enjoy the same movie and music as us. But in the future they would go to International schools and speak English.We made this film in a town a one-hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur. Maybe the Yellow river is just a stranger river to the younger generation.

吕柏勋,台湾艺术大学图文传播艺术学系双主修电影学系毕业,现为自由影像工作者。从大学时期便开始为舞团,剧场制作广告,形象宣传等影像,同时也执行平面摄影专题创作 ,曾入围国际大型摄影赛事。作品风格着重影像带给观者的氛围,首部剧情短片《野潮》一举获得金穗奖学生组首奖,香港ifva独立短片及影像媒体比赛亚洲新力量组银奖 ,为台湾影坛中值得关注的新锐焦点。
Director's biography
Graduated from National Taiwan University of Arts and, double major in Graphic Communication Art Studies and Cinema Studies, Lv Baixun is now a freelance filmmaker. Lv started making photography works; advertisement and promotion videos for dancing troupes and theaters since college. His works mainly focus on creating the atmosphere for the audience. His first short Wild Tides wins the 1st place of Golden Harvest Awards for Student Organizations and Silver Award of Hong Kong ifva Awards Asian New Force Category. The film has become a new hit of the Taiwan film community that worth concerning.
【影片简介】清早,男孩在村庄中骑着机车,主动协助村民的工作,但皆被拒绝。后来好友前来邀约至家中渔塭帮忙收成,事成后好友父亲交予男孩们一项任务,将马达钥匙送至邻村,两人开心地一起前往,送达时间惊觉钥匙不在身上。男孩赶紧回头搜寻双星记 ,尽管已经涨潮,他仍然坚持要找到,因为这是他难得受到认可的一项机会。
Synopsis
It's the harvest season, the boy in the village riding his motorcycle around for opportunities to help, but all the responses are ignore or reject. Finally when he get the chance to help, he find out that he miss the tool which he should take care. now he needs to find the tool back…

Director's statement
Wild Tides is adapted by the director’s personal feelings and experience about life. The film aims to raise the audience’s resonance about belonging through making the audience think about the relationship between their hometown, the environment and themselves.
