据现场目击者介绍，该男子系淮滨县谷堆乡人，40岁左右，在钓鱼过程中鱼钩甩到了水塘上方的高压电线上，导致该男子被电击倒，身上有疑似电击烧伤痕迹。随后有人拨打120急救电话，急救人员赶到时该男子已无生命迹象。
